Great friendly bunch here. Was there blacking a touching up the gunwales on a friend's boat, staff always on ha d if I needed anything

I broke the rudder cup when my boat hit an unknown underwater object. I was boating a long way from home and needed to get underway again as soon as possible. None of the other boatyards in the area were interested in helping me, but despite being booked up for the next 3 weeks, Joe was so helpful and managed to squeeze me into his busy schedule, and did the repair at a very reasonable cost. Truly excellent.

I took my boat to be blacked here and was surprised at the 2 day turnaround.The blacking starting falling off in clumps after about 6 weeks. When I was passing by again I asked Joe to have a look and he agreed that it was substandard and he would do it again for free as a goodwill gesture". As it turned out I wasn't returning via Newbury for a year so I contacting him again requesting a partial refund so that I could get my boat re-blacked elsewhere

If you’re painting your own boat here, fine. Otherwise beware. A sub-standard job was done on my boat. The Jotun Apoxy paint I paid £170 was not used. Joe used Rylard bitumen instead without telling me, so totally ruined the previous expensive two-part epoxy paint job. I booked four days in the dry dock, and upon arriving the evening before relaunch, the paint wasn’t dry. Rust hadn’t been treated, black bitumen paint was dripped everywhere over the bow and stern fenders and their chains, and over the existing warn anodes. Four new anodes were requested, but not put on. I spent over £500, travelled six days there and back. The boat will have to go into a dry dock again this year at further expense. I have politely written to Joe twice, requesting a refund of the cost of the paint that wasn’t used, and though several months have passed, no reply has been received. A deeply disappointing experience, and not to be repeated.

Joe is very helpful. You can hire the dry dock for DIY work or use the many services provided there. Can't fault it. Good communication, decent prices.
