CheckMate Bar and Restaurant

Cosy and stylish bar with lounge and dining area within the Park International Hotel, Cromwell Rd, SW7. Have 2 screens for BT Sports but the best viewing is in the lounge area but seating is limited here. The food is Thai/International cuisine. The barbecue chicken wing starters were generous and tasty. I had a delicious king prawn dish but the steak my partner had was unappetising and disappointing. We sent it back and chose another dish. The staff were helpful here and overall, the experience was a pleasant one.

The waiting times were very long. The appetizers were way too big so you were not so hungry for the main. I ordered a medium rare steak and it was well done and the quality was very bad and it was very chewy. Also it was Way to expensive one steak costs 21.95

Love how cosy the place is. Great food and drinks. Most importantly, beautiful live music. My go-to place if I badly need to switch off or just simply listen to fantastic piano and vocals.

Outstanding Thai Food in reasonable price, sure not oily, but fresh & clean fried vegatible & squids, with tasty Thai sources. Enjoyed a well organized dinner here.

Surprisingly very good Thai food

Expensive for what it is. We got Thai dishes since the chef is from Thailand and we were mostly unimpressed. My garlic chicken was good but my wife's curry was weak, lacking in body and flavor. Also it should be noted that prices did not include tax or service charges, which I had assumed. That information was not included on the menu and it seemed like common practice for those to be included .

Excellent place to spend the night in. Well organised and clean. The pianist is amazing and willing to play whatever song you would like. I went there twice in 3 weeks. Thanks for the outstanding service.

I have regularly used the CheckMate Bar over the last seven years to meet with groups of friends when I visit London. The venue is great, and generally the service is excellent. On my most recent visit (02/09/2022 - for my birthday) the experience was spoiled by the service. The Guinness was flat (and end of barrel) so we returned it undrunk to the bar. The young woman refused to replace the drinks, telling us we would have to buy again. She was unnecessarily rude to me, and then refused us table service, though did it for others in the bar. She complained she was on her own with no help. Over the space of three hours we put around £80 across the bar, the most revenue the place was earning that evening. So, I will return - but I trust that some kind of Customer Service training will be given meantime. If an individual does not want to put out for customers they should not be in a customer-facing role. I did speak to a manager at the time (Orlando) and the Receptionist for the adjoined Hotel; they were sympathetic and concerned, but said they had no direct jurisdiction over the bar staffing. I trust somebody in the organization does.On this occasion 2-stars. Normally 5.***So, I returned, exactly one year later with three friends - 02/09/23. Remarkably, the female member of the staff running bar service this time around was equally lacking in charm, politeness, and customer service.What is it with the Checkmate bar that customer-facing staff are so lacking in warmth?Ambience 5 - great venue to meet.Staff/Customer Service 1 - competent but charmless and rude.

We stay at the Park hotel and tried their restaurant. The food is good but the service is very slow,even if there aren't many customers. I cut out one star because of that and because it's a little bit expensive.
