Halfords Autocentre Chester

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!They failed my car MOT sighting it had a hole in the exhaust, needed new front suspension springs and top mounts. They wanted to charge £1000 to do the work!Took the car to another MOT centre and it passed the MOT. The springs were fine as were the top mounts and there was no hole in the exhaust so none of the above work was needed.We also had a brake disk and pads replaced by Halfords. That seized on after only 100 miles and nearly set fire to the carI would have given them no stars had that been possible!!!

Really fast, really helpful branch, nothing was too much bother. I went in for a suspension check with concerns about a loud knocking noise - they worked for hours to trace the fault and realised it wasn't the suspension but something had slipped out of place and was banging against the undercarriage. A quick fix for a minor issue and no charge!

Agreed on the phone that they would take in our van for a clutch and flywheel replacement (The lady on the phone was lovely and very helpful). When we arrived on the back of an AA truck, they refused to take the van. Absolutely disgraceful, and has cost us a fortune in additional recovery. Avoid at all costs!

Had my car in for an MOTPoor customer service and the quote for the work was huge . Went to a local trusted garage and got the work done for £500 less (half what Halfords quoted). I now don't trust them and would not go there again. Used them previously never really had a problem.

Never had a good experience here.Had my Polo in for MOT & they failed it on deteriorated front suspension bushes which were replaced just one week earlier, they said it would be £380 to resolve. I refused & furiously took it back to the previous garage. They got it up on the ramps & me underneath, they proved, & shown to me the work was done. Angrily I went back to Halfords with this knowledge & they said leave it with us. They then PASSED the car that same afternoon but said if would be another £40 as I took the car offsite. Nothing was done to the car in the interim..* I should have stayed away permanently* but.Recently booked my car in online in for a headlight check & adjust = £15. Booked online with the option of an 8:00 appointment, 11:00 appointment, 13:00 appointment. Booked the 8am & told work I'll be in a bit later.Arrived at 8am to be told that only one light will be done as they charge p. light, (what use is that)?Anyway then told leave it with us we currently have a slot available at 13:40".Place is useless

In contrast to previous reviews, I’ve actually just had an excellent experience here. Unfortunately didn’t get the names of the two people helping me (one said he only started yesterday - he was excellent). Went for a new bulb, they fitted this and thoroughly checked all sorts on the car, topped up my screen wash and put some air in the tyre to save me a job! Really genuine guys, couldn’t be happier.

I took my car for 4 new tyres to be fitted. Upon arrival they were informed my key is broken and the car needs locking manually when work is done. Left for a few hours and collected it later that day. My car had been left unlocked even though they'd been informed about my key. Also when I arrived home, one of my plastic wheel trims hadn't been put back on and had popped off. We then took this back to get put on again. The 4 'new' tyres also have grey paint or something splattered all across them and even after taking my car for a jet wash the residue is still on them. Wouldn't recommend as lack of care towards customer property is none existent.

I had booked an MOT with Halfords Chester center at 10.00am on 3 Dec 2023, a Sunday. In the appointment email I was asked report 10 minutes early. When I went in, the person at the reception said the center wouldn’t open before 10.00 am. Didn’t bother to open the door and tell that information.Upon completion, I received a call that said the car is ready to collect. I also received an email which stated the same. So went back and again the same person was rude saying he didn’t inform the car is ready. When I said I had email from Halfords that the car is ready to collect, his response was it was not from him.Waited for 15min and then I was given the keys to a different car. When I pointed it out, then he took the report which was printed and ready and gave it to me.I have had some good experiences with Halfords in other places. This was my first time at this center and probably my last.

Of the two items we were told needed addressing on our car at its MOT, neither was an advisory on the ‘PASSED’ certificate. This is known as making up work and sadly not exclusive to Halfords. They are very carful of how they word the work that needs doing in order to make you feel it actually does. This is a completely wrong practice.

Excellent service here today! Very friendly people in the office - a lovely lady and gentleman (whose names I didn't catch unfortunately) who chatted to me whilst I was waiting despite being incredibly busy. The guy who repaired my puncture was also great - extremely professional and friendly. Thank you everyone!!
