Bay Vet Group - Paignton

3 weeks ago when finding our 8 year old chow had a terrible bloated stomach we initially went to bay vets near st Mary church as they were who we used to get our litter of puppies vaccinated and chipped, but when we got there they sent us to Paignton because they said they didn’t have pain relief for him.We drove to paington and I frantically YouTubed videos of treatment for bloat. I found a video which said to lay the dog on his back and rock the dog from side to side which I did a couple of times and by the time we got to Bay vets he was able to sit up and was drinking water. We arrived and I carried him in panicking myself but he was such a calm and amazing dog he made no fuss so we sat in the waiting area for over half an hour with the staff discussing how we would pay the estimated £2500 bill. Eventually we went into a room with a vet who took a look at him and I happily agreed to the £80 charge per X-ray, the vet send me back to reception to sign the paperwork where they agreed the payment plan for the worst case scenario (£1000 today and £1500 within 2 weeks) even though nothing had yet been done. Then waiting in reception I over heard the ladies talking/laughing about someone who was coming in thinking his bill would be £300 when in fact it was going to be £800. My dog then started making a horrible noise so I asked to go in and see him but they wouldn’t let me, they said we should go and wait for a call. Just over half an hour later they called and said they were doing cpr but that it wasn’t working and did we want them to continue. Xavi spent 45 minutes in Bay vets without any pain relief and died scared and alone, and at no time did they attempt the same procedure I had found on YouTube. 3 days later we received a condolences card reminding us to pay the outstanding bill. There was one kind lady who put some of his fur in little bags for my children when they said good bye to him but I will never forgive the heartless attitude of this money orientated veterinary practise. Sadly I had to have my beautiful Milo put to sleep recently. The care and compassion from the vet and reception staff was outstanding. We weren’t rushed , and everything was done in a peaceful and caring way . The vet showed immense empathy and for that I will always be truly grateful.

This has been my regular vets for a number of years, and while you don't always get to see the same vet (assuming due to branch rotation) everyone we have seen has been really good. The only negative, and it's a big negative, is their out of hours service, I had to go to Dart Vale in Totnes and it was a really disappointing and unpleasant experience, spoken to with zero empathy and would never go back there again. Bay Vets, if you are in a position to reconsider who you direct your customers/patients to out of hours, I'd urge you to.

Expensive one star petcare for a five star price. Where to begin.... Last month we took our cat for her yearly boosters at our local bay vets in Paignton. While there she was examined by the vet and we were told she would have to have some teeth out as they were going rotten. We were told Newton Abbot bay vets would be in touch as that's where they do all their dentistry. We waited for two weeks, nothing! So we got in touch ourselves and booked her in. We also had to book a pet ambulance as neither of us is in any fit state health wise to drive to Newton Abbot and back twice in oneday. It all ended up costing us the following, for the ambulance £60, for the x-ray, anesthetic and scrape and polish £474.56 so £574.56 in total. Turned out her teeth were fine and just needed a scrape and polish. We are now having trust issues with bay vets as our cat had no rotten teeth and the price was insanely high to find this out! Our cat was returned to us stinking of her own urine and faeces though we were assured at the time that she had been washed". Five star prices for a one star service. Tonight we are going to have to figure out how to bathe a cat that hates water. Needless to say we will be looking elsewhere for our petcare in the future!"

Fab vets, reception and price plans. Zara is always happy to see them even after some more challenging procedures. They have also been learning about leishmaniasis and are always open to ideas. Emily there is absolutely incredible too, goes above and beyond.

We sadly had to put our lovely cat to sleep and the vet and the employees were incredibly kind and sensitive ❤️

Felt a little like my vet was more interested in whether I had pet insurance, than what my dog needed. Dismissed what i asked for originally, prescribed lots of expensive meds then 4 weeks later, when still in same state, agree to prescribe what i asked for at first appointment! Disappointed.
