Carrington Lime

Just finished the lime plastering level 1/2 course with Ben. Excellent instruction, advice and working knowledge of the materials and conditions that make lime the only answer in an old property. Traditional ways of working with a refreshingly modern and practical view.

Ben came out to our Edwardian house for a consultation. We spent time going over every bit of the house where Ben showed me what to look out for, identified any problems, talked through possible solutions, and gave reassurance where it was needed.I was looking for someone who knew how historic buildings worked and who could give sensible, proportionate, practical advice - and that's what Ben does.Really enjoyed the morning and feel like I now understand our house a lot more.

I recently completed the one day lime pointing course at Carrington Lime and loved every minute of it. Ben and Kate are brimming with passion for the use lime and while the course was focused on pointing, Ben was happy to answer questions away from the main course topic on damp, plastering and general building advice.I came away with a section of wall that looked good and I am ready to tackle my own pointing project at home.

I attended the lime pointing course in July. Highly recommend this for anyone that needs to look after a historic building. Perfect balance of theory and hands on practice at mixing mortar, pointing your stone or brick wall and then removing the mortar. Surprised how much fun it was! Unlike some other courses these guys offer support and have a forum to ask questions and share knowledge.

I joined the 2 day lime plastering course (Level 1) with Ben and Kate from Carrington Lime, and it was excellent! I had a bit of understanding of lime before the course but came away from the two days with lots more information, as well as all the hands-on experience from working on my own practice wall. I now feel confident that we should be able to do the lime plastering works on our own cottage.

I have an old property that needs maintenance, so I took the one day pointing course. The day gave me a better understanding of lime Mortar, it's application and uses. We had good practice mixing mortar and pointing both stone and brickwork. A well worth while course.

I attended a lime plastering course having seen numerous lime/historic/period building forum posts praising Carrington Lime's courses. I was not disappointed. The course covered theory: history, how lime works as a building material, and how it can and should be used today. Both modern builds and in the maintenance of more historic buildings, where it can be essential.The majority of each fo the two days were spent on practice - slaking lime, mixing and applying a base and top coat, and latterly experimenting with a final coat of lime putty.Throughout Ben provided helpful feedback and coaching, as well as discussing the application of the skills to each of our real-world projects. Highly recommended - and thoroughly looking forward to going back as soon as possible.

Had a fantastic, productive two days on the level 1 Lime Plastering course. I had a very basic knowledge of how lime is used and no practical experience at all. Ben was encouraging and made both the theory and practical interesting and simple. He was also really good at listening to and answering everyone's individual queries about their homes or projects. Came home and signed up for level two!

We both went for the 1 day lime mortaring course: highly recommended.We had virtually zero prior skills, but now feel fully empowered to have a go at sorting out a crumby old wall.Great facilities for a small group (there were 8 of us) to all be learning and getting solid hands-on practice.Ben and Kate both very friendly and *very* knowledgable - a thoroughly enjoyable day!

Fabulous hands on day! Lime pointing course, led by the knowledgeable & experienced Ben Carrington. Great balance of classroom work & practical work in the workshop. Worth the five hour round trip! Highly recommend!
