Avon Dam Reservoir
It's a lovely walk from the car park to the dam itself. The surface is tarmac and mostly smooth BUT uphill to the dam and a gentle slope downwards on the return leg. It took about 50 minutes to get there and about 40 minutes coming back. There is a picnic table beside the road as it crosses the River Avon to rest the legs. Kids will want to take scooters/ bikes but these were mostly being worn around necks by patient parents on the upward journey!!The dam is impressive and remains of a railway are still visible on the right hand side of the dam. There are concrete pillars in the shape of trig points each side of the dam. I have not been able to establish their use? Answers on a postcard please. Parking is £2 for 2 hours and there are toilets on site...plus a coffee/ cake wagon

Arrived around 10:30 to find the car park completely full had to park on one of the verges like alot of other people were but be careful as not all areas can be parked on.The walk itself was uphill for the way up at a relatively gentle gradient, the river will be on the right hand side of you, it was very peaceful and tranquil even with the odd person popping up now and again. There was plenty of roaming animals mainly sheep and some wild horses and your reminded to keep pets on a lead but if your dog is well behaved there was no one policing it.The way back down was alot easier as it was all down hill and the whole walk took around an hour and half about 3.6 miles there and back.If your in the area definitely come visit a perfect place for a picnic or just a scenic walk to take your mind of the world.

Spectacular scenery. A gentle uphill walk from cascading river with trees to grand sweeping bare hills. Loved it.

Great walk for people with prams, wheelchairs or small kids on bikes. Park at Shipley Bridge and get a bacon sandwich from the Clipper coffee van if you're lucky then walk along the river. The walk is lined with rhodedendrons which weren't in bloom when we recently went but worth trying to catch them in the spring or earlier summer!

A great place for a walk on your own, with your partner, with children, to walk the dog or for a short cycle. There is a free car park at the beginning of the walk with toilets and picnic benches. A beautiful area.
