Monnington House and Garden Cottage

Well, just come back from yet another visit - we've been coming every year now for years for a family reunion, and have just booked it again for my cousin's fortieth wedding anniversary next year, which will give us a chance to try out the caterers!It's such a comfortable and welcoming house, and everything is very high end. Anna, the owner, is really helpful and a fantastic little welcome pack is always there when we arrive, together with very classy toiletries in all of the bathrooms. A weekend at Monnington is something that all the family looks forward to, and as all of the bedrooms including in the cottage are really comfortable and luxurious, nobody needs to feel they got the short straw. The kitchen is wonderful and really well equipped which gives the cooks in the family great joy! And we always all enjoy the open fires and the beautiful surrounding countryside - perfect for autumn walks.Update from our third visit (already booked again for next year!). Still just as lovely and we all enjoyed ourselves so much. Just such a pleasure to stay in a house which is so comfortable and friendly and feels so relaxed. Beautifully warm and so well equipped. The first two years we were here we went into Hay on Wye for Saturday and to a pub for lunch on Sunday, but this time it seemed a shame to leave the house. So we went for a big walk on Saturday - took the Wye Valley trail through the Bulmers' cider orchards and then looped around Garnons Hill and back - really gorgeous scenery, fantastic walking. On Sunday we cooked a big lunch in the lovely kitchen while everyone lounged around reading the papers in the dining room and chatting or else slumped by the fire waiting to eat, punctuated by a lively game of football in the field for the kids - it was just wonderful! Really can't recommend this too highly - it really is the perfect house to visit. And the owners are very kind and helpful - they are developing a new property across the garden which will provide overflow for large parties or a more private property for smaller groups, which suits us very well. Our large family is expanding as the younger generation partner up, and they all want to come along, so it's great to find a property where everyone can have a bed and nobody gets a raw deal, since all of the rooms are equally comfortable and well-appointed.This is our second visit - we loved it the first time, loved it even more the second! It's a big house which doesn't feel big - loads of space for everyone, with lots of places for people to sit and chat comfortably, but at the same time we didn't feel that we were rattling around separate to one another.One of the nicest things is that this house really does feel like a home. Beautiful furnishings, bookshelves stuffed with books everywhere, well-chosen paintings and prints in every room, it feels like staying with a very kind and well-off relative with a lovely house!We're a big family party celebrating a birthday, which was easy given the gorgeous dining area and two wonderful sitting rooms, one formal" which was fantastic for pre-dinner drinks

Lovely main house, unfortunately we were in the cottage in a very average twin room. The other room in the cottage was infested with fly's and lady birds. We asked if we could bring the dog, £20 per night and he can only be in the boot room!! We asked if the beds could be put together, another £20!! Very expensive having already paid over £100 per night for our average room. Host became quite unpleasant when dealing with any issues at the end of our stay.Very disappointed.

My family and I stayed at Monnington House to celebrate my Mum's 60th birthday. There was 12 of us, including 2 teenagers and a toddler. The house was absolutely perfect for us - plenty of space for us to spread out and not be on top of each other and beautiful grounds that we all enjoyed spending time in! It was spotlessly clean and the kitchen was stocked with all the equipment we needed. Anna was very helpful and we used a number of her recommendations, including a caterer, a local cake maker, the farm shop and the owl and small animal centre - all of which were fantastic! I would highly recommend staying here and we hope to return in the future!

This is a lovely old farm house, very spacious and well appointed. Great for family and friends get togethers. We had a fab time

Monnington House was just perfect for our family weekend, 18 of us, so we had full use of the main house and the cottage. The football field, table tennis, and games room were very popular, and the house was very spacious for the large group. It's a lovely area with nice local walks. Would recommend for special celebrations like ours was.

We had a wonderful stay in Monnington House over half term week. The house is huge, with a beautiful garden and plenty of space. The house is really well provisioned, with large comfortable beds & lovely bathrooms. The games room was a real bonus in the wet weather! There is plenty to do in the area; walking, Llama treks & climbing to mention a few. The local farmshop is also excellent. Thank you

Myself and my guests have just had the most amazing weekend in these properties. It was a perfect birthday weekend and everything I had hoped it would be and more. No-one wanted to leave.The properties are stunning in every way – location, set up, comfort, attention to detail – everything about the three properties was perfect. They all worked so well together, and everyone was super comfortable. And there is plenty to do - a games room, table tennis in the barn, football on the football pitch and walking the Wye Valley Walk. Or if you just want to relax in smaller groups there are three super lounge spaces in the main house. I think everyone has gone away now thinking about when they might like to return with their own families and I would not hesitate to return for another occasion. I was so very happy to see all my guests so very happy. What a wonderful find. Perfect.

This is a wonderful place for a big family and friends get-together. We rented the large house and annex (for a second time) and felt totally relaxed from the moment we arrived to the moment we sadly had to leave. The main house is spacious with a great open kitchen/dining area with views of the lawned gardens. The games room and table tennis area are great when the weather isn't, but this time we were able to enjoy badminton, football and cricket outside too. The owners took every care to ensure that our stay was a success and as covid secure" as it could be."

We had a wonderful weekend at this beautiful house - perfect for our family gathering of 14. It is spacious and comfortable and was provided with everything we needed. We had fun playing table tennis and pool as well as football and badminton. We used the recommended caterer for one evening and enjoyed an excellent meal. Highly recommended.
