Caerleon Roman Fortress and Baths | Cadw | The luxury and bloodshed of life in a Roman fortress Life was hard for a Roman legionary in first-century Wales. When he wasn’t cooped up in his barracks or being barked at by a centurion he was out risking his life in skirmishes with ancient Britons. But here in Isca, one of just three permanent legionary fortresses in Britain, there were compensations. He could always hang out with his friends at the fortress baths – or take a stroll to the amphitheatre to watch the gladiators.

Caerleon Roman Barracks
Very interesting place. Very curious about the history of the location. We wondered around talking about what possibly could have happened and what each area was based on the little we know in general. It was interesting to watch local teenagers and how they acted like this is a nothing place. I’m curious if they understand they history of this place, and how an amazing gift it is they have this at their fingertips.

Ruins of Roman Barracks. Not masses to see here, with only one (that I could see) information sign board. Still interesting to walk around and see the shapes of what the barracks used to look like. A highlight (as always!) is the communal latrine and accompanying description.

almost missed this one but staff in Fortress baths told me that place so that i visited together. that was ruin but worth to visit 4place together in Caerleon
