STJ were paid to create an oak truss roof between 2 standard truss roofs, the roof finish being level. Although the oak trusses were good, the roof as a whole was a complete mess. The roof was out of line at both ends. To solve the problem at one end, we had to add furrings at our cost but that created problems at the other with the completed gable end brickwork. At the other end, we have been left with an odd looking step change in the roof which cannot be solved except at great cost. The standard roof carpentry that was done was incredibly poor. Other errors were made too including putting 2 rooflights on the wrong side of the building which we had to rectify at our cost. STJ have all the talk but nothing is ever their fault. I have been accused of playing them off against other chippies and accused of agreeing to all the faults. Personally I would not trust STJ with my roof work again.To add to the above, we have just discovered that numerous bracing timbers and straps have no fixings.

Would highly recommend Stj. They made and fitted 3 traditional sliding sash windows for us. Shall be using again in the future.

Outstanding craftsman and builder who I would highly recommend to anyone for his workmanship and customer care. Steve was recommended to us and we were not disappointed, so much that we have had him do more work on our home since. If there are any issues during the build, he sorts it without making it the client’s issue and always wants his clients to be satisfied with his work. STJ Builders have just completed a large garden room extension to our Grade 11 listed 16th century property, predominately with green oak beams which are a striking feature. Steve Tuck made a significant contribution to the design, and his craftsmanship with the oak was impressive. Throughout the 5 months on site, Steve kept to schedule, communicated fully and did everything possible to minimise disruption and keep the building site tidy. STJ made some hardwood windows for our thatched listed building. They also did some brickwork around the windows. The team was very professional and did a great job. We are really pleased with the outcome and would heartily recommend.
