We've been here before and had a lovely meal. This time, it was a little bit hit & miss. We ordered a lasagne & the brisket roast dinner. The lasagne was quite overcooked & looked it. The brisket was not cooked enough & we weren't able to even cut into it. The sides that we ordered came out after we'd started eating our meals. We were given steak knives for the brisket, which helped & also the chef offered to change the plates, which we declined. I thought that the dinner tasted lovely. My family didn't. They felt that the dinners shouldn't have been served if they weren't cooked properly. Having said that, I would return as I did enjoy the dinner in the end.

First time booking a table here, good variety on the menu. Ordered Steak pie & chips, didn't disappoint, very tasty meal, quality food. Ordered a pudding of sticky toffee & custard...delicious...Highly recommend xxx

Food is decent, but expensive. Ordered the whitebait and it turns out £6 buys you 6 whitebait. If you don't mind expensive food you'll get better quality at Mistral, over the road. If you want value/portion size, try the Red Lion (30 yards down the road). If you just LOVE whitebait then try the Black Swan in Belper - 4 x as much, for less £!

We were passing by the area and since we were hungry decided to grab a bit in this pub. The pub itself is lovely and very cosy. The food however is not worth the price, some came cold, the stuffing was like out of a cheap supermarket tin. Very disappointed. The lady at the bar was a bit grumpy as well, needless to say we didn't stay long. On the positive note doggies are welcome. Having said that we are not going to be returning back.

Came for bottomless brunch. Staff were busy initially but attentive and the speed of drinks picked up after the initial rush. Note - If booking via the website even when on the bottomless brunch page make sure to specify it is bottomless brunch on the note as the staff were unaware of this with our booking and seemed a bit stressed by this, however accommodated us well - the main worry for them was the mezze board which we weren't even aware was something you got on the bottomless brunch so it it was a very pleasant surprise (bread, cheese, meats and olives) and wouldn't have been the end of the world if they hadn't been able to do anyway.Drinks definitely hit the spot, we'd recomend the pineapple rum cocktail. For food, again we were impressed and pleasantly surprised when another plate of the whitebait came out and our server told us the chef hadn't been happy with the first so sent another! I had been happy with the first so another even better plate (the battering was more even and generous on the second) was an added bonus!Would definitely recommend, thanks for a great afternoon!

The staff here are friendly and their service was excellent too. The food was top quality and reasonably priced. Everything was clean and there's a good atmosphere. Dogs are allowed in too, and dogs always make pubs better.

Had a long weekend in Wirksworth to relax and enjoy a little bit of the Peak District, we booked the hope and Anchor for a meal and wasn't disappointed great home made pup grub and service to match and made our four legged friend more than welcome. Ps if you've got time try the snug for a bit of quiet time you won't want to leave, thanks again all . Merry Christmas from John & fam.

Staying overnight at Wirksworth. Hadn’t planned on eating but called in for a drink in evening whilst walking the dog.Quality of food looked excellent so decided to order. We had the steak & stout pie. PROPER pie fully encased with a good filling (not a dish with a pastry cap!) PROPER fresh cooked fat chips and fresh cooked veg. Excellent and very filling. Freshly cooked and hot.Choice of 5 hand pulled ales as well into the bargain. Mostly local ones as well.
