Army Reserve Centre

My old TAC or Territorial Army Center when I was a serving reserve soldier in the early nineteen nineties. Back in the days when we still had a TA. Or TAVR. Volunteer Reserve training for the old Cold War. Still there our old building and looking very remarkably unchanged. I walked by for old times sakes some weeks ago. Lots of memories there from my time with 6/7th Batallion Queens Infantry Rifles. Mostly good fond memories. We were C Quebec Coy there and that was our Company HQ. With our other Platoon, that I was attached to, based a short distance away over at Lingfield detachment TAC, in Surrey. We were essentially a purely home defence army unit back then. Were non NATO/BAOR committed unit. Our job was primarily back then key point defence in the old Cold War times. We trained here often with the very capable HSF or old guard soldier volunteers of the last UK Dad's Army type Home Guard unit. The Home Service Force. They always used to impress and inspire us in training.The local car park area at the back which we used to parade on has gone now. Recently I found, through asking someone now living in the new big set of flats and houses now there instead. So there's no way to walk through at the back now I found.Long may the center continue. We do need a Reserve Army probably more now perhaps than at any other times in the last 20 years. With all going on in Europe. Very pleased and proud to see the tradition of service here continuing still years after my time there.
